Cookie Policy

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text strings that the websites visited by the user send to their terminal device (usually the browser), where they are stored to be retransmitted to the same websites during subsequent visits by the same user. While browsing a website, the user may also receive cookies sent by different websites or web servers (so-called “third parties”), which may contain certain elements (e.g., images, maps, sounds, specific links to pages of other domains) present on the site they are visiting.

Cookies are classified, based on their purpose, into “technical cookies” and “profiling cookies”:

Technical cookies are used solely for the purpose of “carrying out the transmission of a communication over an electronic communication network or, as strictly necessary, for the provider of an information society service explicitly requested by the subscriber or user to provide such a service” (Art. 122, paragraph 1, of the Personal Data Protection Code). They are not used for additional purposes and are typically installed directly by the website operator. These can be divided into:

Navigation or session cookies, which ensure the normal navigation and use of the website (allowing, for example, purchases or access to restricted areas).

Analytics cookies, which are treated as technical cookies when used directly by the website operator to collect aggregate information on user numbers and how they visit the site.

Functionality cookies, which enable users to navigate based on selected criteria (e.g., language, selected products) to improve the provided service.

No prior user consent is required to install these cookies, although the website operator is obligated to provide information as per Art. 13 of the Personal Data Protection Code.

Profiling cookies are used to create user profiles and send advertising messages in line with the preferences expressed during online browsing. European and Italian regulations stipulate that users must be adequately informed about their use and provide valid consent. These are governed by Art. 122 of the Personal Data Protection Code, which states that “the storage of information on a contractor’s or user’s terminal device or access to already stored information is allowed only if the contractor or user has expressed their consent after being informed through simplified methods” (Art. 122, paragraph 1).

Regarding their duration, cookies can be classified as:

Session cookies, which are temporary and disappear from the user’s device once they leave the site or close their browser. They are usually stored in the computer's cache.

Persistent cookies, which remain on the user’s device even after the browser is closed, until they expire or are manually deleted by the user. Their expiration date is determined by the website that sets them and is often used to track user preferences for future visits.

Based on their source, cookies are further divided into:

First-party cookies, sent directly by the operator of the website the user is visiting.

Third-party cookies, sent through the website being visited by a third party that is not the website operator. These cookies are not under the control of the site operator. For more details about third-party cookies and their purposes, it is recommended to consult the respective privacy policy pages.
